Reprezenting Hungarians living outside the borders of Hungary in the European Parliament

The Foreign Affairs and Diaspora committee of the Hungarian Parliament held an extraordinary meeting on the 3rd of December with the attendance of the Hungarian MEPs from Hungary and neighboring countries. The committee discussed the issues of the representation of the interest of the Hungarian living outside Hungary in the European Parliament.

DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor congratulated Hungarian journalist from Transylvania, Tímea Bakk-Dávid, editor of Transindex on behalf of his colleagues. The journalist submitted an article written in Hungarian for the European Commission’s The European Year Journalist Award 2010: Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The Unitarian Church in Vlahita inaugurated its new church bell

The Unitarian congregation from Vlahita, with more than 350 congregation members, desires to build a new church because the current prayer room that is available is situated in the basement of the parish and proves not to be spacious enough.

MEP Csaba Sógor is the patron of the IX. Transylvanian Student’s Scientific Conference

Csíkszereda will give home between 26th and 28th November 2010 to the ninth edition of the Transylvanian Student’s Scientific Conference (TUDEK). After a request by the National Association of Researcher Students, the Kós Károly School of Construction undertook the organization of the event. The patron of the conference was MEP Csaba Sógor.

The presentation entitled “What will we eat tomorrow? – between GMOs and food preservation” held by Fidesz’ MEP Béla Glattfelder on November 26th, 2010 in the Reményik Sándor Gallery in Cluj-Napoca was the first in the series of presentation organized under the name European evenings by DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor.

EP protest against the infringement of language rights in Tibet

This week’s plenary session of the European Parliament saw the debate on the joint motion for a resolution about the attempt of the Chinese authorities to suspend native language education in Tibet. The motion, proposed by MEP Thomas Mann (German, EPP) and signed by 48 other MEPs was discussed in the traditional human rights debate on Thursday afternoon. The motion comes after the Chinese government announced a new educational program that would introduce Cantonese Chinese as the sole official language of education.

Debate of young Political Scientist’s at Cluj

Cluj gave home to this year’s edition of the Conference of the Young Political Scientists from the Carpathian Basin (FIPOLI) between 11 and 14th of November with the central issue of Hungarian interests in Central Europe with regard to strategic partnerships and Hungarians living outside the borders of Hungary. It is the first time the conference is held outside of Hungary.
