Csaba Sógor: There is a need for Christian thinking and politics in Europe

"In this ever-changing and stressed Europe there is a need for Christian values, consistency and experience" - argued Csaba Sógor at the meeting of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Miercurea Ciuc. He expressed the need for the Hungarian community in Transylvania to live and grow in a Europe that is strong. He reasoned that if there is a problem with Europe, and if there is a problem with Brussels, it is so because a lot of Christians made the decision to abstain from politics, as if though politics was something sinful that should be avoided.

Transylvania is not only the past but also the future: the RMDSZ`s English language website about Transylvania has been presented in Strasbourg

The RMDSZ presented the www.transylvania.com website at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which offers English language content on Transylvania for foreign visitors. The portal sponsored by the Bethlen Gábor Fund and the Eurotrans Foundation reports also about problems of the Hungarian community, besides the attractions of the region: the use of mother tongue, education, property restitution - which are also part of the everyday life of our community.

Csaba Sógor: The EU handles the Schengen accession process with double standards

The whole EU is negatively affected by delay of the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to Schengen - says the report adopted by the European Parliament on Wednesday. MEP`s reminded the EU institutions in resolutions, that the two countries have already fulfilled in 2011 all the conditions necessary for accession to the Schengen area.

We are helping Romania to use EU funds in the most efficient way

The EP committee votes on the common provisions regulation of the European Structural and Investment Funds for the 2021-2027 budget cycle has ended with a number of positive results for Romania. According to Csaba Sógor, the most important outcome is that the EU funding for Member States has increased and the committee has decided on more favourable conditions for terms of use.

More and more people think in Europe, that further steps need to be taken to protect minorities at European level

MEP Csaba Sógor reports in an international publication about the legal situation and violations of the Hungarian minority in Romania. “Following the 2007 EU accession, we had high hopes, that as a member of the European Union, Romania would not afford to fail to comply with the promises made before accession in the protection of minorities. However, it seems that this is the case, so once again it is the EU’s turn to change the attitude of the Member States towards minorities”- stressed the RMDSZ MEP.

Csaba Sógor: European Labour Authority protects the interest of those who work abroad

The European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs voted on the establishment of a European Labour Authority. The plenary adopted the report on Tuesday. The document includes MEP Csaba Sógor’s proposal as well, which requires the new authority to deal with the abolition of discrimination against workers coming from other Member States and step up against labour exploitation.

MEP’s call on the European Commission and the Member States, to address more efficiently the issue of protecting minorities.
