Public hearing in the EP on the protection of traditional national minorities
The issue of traditional national minorities was on the agenda of the European People's Party (EPP) for the first time during a public hearing on the matter organised on Wednesday April 22nd in Brussels. The conclusion that may be drawn following the hearing attended by international specialists and NGO representatives is that an EPP guideline should be set in the field. The document is expected to be drafted by the group's members in the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) committee of the EP.

The European Commission aims to increase the number of disabled workers in the EU institutions
The European Commission encourages people with disabilities to apply for jobs in the European Union institutions and gives assurance that all necessary arrangements will be made to create the necessary working conditions for them. Members of the European Parliament debated on the issue on the 15th of April. During the plenary session in Brussels the MEPs agreed: the European Union institutions need to set an example for the Member States in this issue.

The European parliament commemorated the Armenian genocide
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide the European Parliament urged Turkey and Armenia to reconcile their differences. During the Brussels mini-plenary session on the 15th of April the MEPs honoured the memory of the 1.5 million innocent Armenians who fell victims of the genocide in the Ottoman Empire, and adopted a resolution urging the two nations to truthfully reconcile.

An informational forum was organised on Thursday, the 9th of April, on rural development with European funds in Satu-Mare. The participants discussed the upcoming calls for projects available for local administrations from the Agriculture and Rural Development Fund. The event was organised by MEP Csaba Sógor and the Satu-Mare County organisation of the RMDSZ in partnership with RegioConsult Investment and Management Advisory Company.

The EP urges Serbia to draft an action plan regarding national minorities
The European Parliament urges Serbia to draft an action plan for resolving the issues of national minorities in a resolution adopted on Wednesday, 11th of March, following a debate on the previous evening. Csaba Sógor commented on the subject saying that he hopes Serbia would set a good example for the member states that fail to meet the Copenhagen criteria after accession to the European Union.

Board meeting of the European People’s Party in Toledo
The European People’s Party Group (EPP) held a two day board meeting in Toledo. The Digital Economy Programme and fighting terrorism in the EU and outside its borders were on the agenda of the European Parliament's largest political group on the 5th and 6th of March.
