The European Parliament wishes to change election procedures
Members of the European Parliament debated on the reform of the electoral procedures during the October plenary session in Strasbourg. Concerning the issue Csaba Sógor added that, although the report acknowledges that there is a declining tendency in voter turnout at the European elections, and that the lack of interest regarding European issues threatens the future of Europe, the proposed measures may not be the most adequate solutions to the problem.

The case of CIA prisons must also be investigated in Romania
Romania is not supporting the exhaustive disclosure of the alleged illegal detention and torture activities conducted by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on European ground – stated the members of the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) on Tuesday, who conducted field work in the country in September. Csaba Sógor stated: everyone should be equally accountable.

Csaba Sógor: The EU is in a foreign policy trap
In an unprecedented way, the Council of the European Union is adopting decisions with a majority of the votes of Member States, without taking each other’s positions into account, which sends the message to the Eastern European states that their opinion does not matter – pointed out Csaba Sógor during the European Parliament’s plenary session, where the MEPs urged for a greater commitment from the EU regarding the promotion of security and stability in countries like Libya and Syria, the largest sources of immigration at the moment.

We can see similar errors in how the refugee crisis and autochthonous minority protection issues are handled, when responding to both with the same set of measures, though they are two very different problems – pointed out Csaba Sógor in Brussels. The RMDSZ MEP emphasized: indigenous minorities are not immigrants, also pointing out that among the latter there are both genuine asylum seekers in need of support as well as economic migrants.

Celebrating the life and work of Béla Bartók in Brussels
Commemorating seventy years since the artist’s death, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of composer Béla Bartók was opened in Brussels. The exhibition showcasing the work of the renowned Hungarian artist was organised by RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor and sponsored by the European People's Party. The opening ceremony took place at the European Parliament, on the 15th of September.

Participants of the Youth Business Programme to win American scholarships
Young Hungarians from Transylvania had the opportunity to expand their knowledge on entrepreneurship, marketing and media at this year’s Youth Business Programme Camp. The most talented high school students attending the training programme joined the competition for a one-month start-up training at the Boston MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

RMDSZ MEPs on immigration in Izvorul Mureșului

European Parliament Conference Concludes: EU Needs Fresh Input to Facilitate the Collective Understanding of Religious Freedom
On 30 June 2015, the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), in cooperation with Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), Minority Rights Group International (MRG) and International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) convened an international conference entitled ‘Freedom of Religion? The Price of Faith’ at the European Parliament in Brussels. Hosted by Csaba Sógor MEP (EPP), György Hölvényi MEP (EPP) and Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP (ALDE), the conference addressed the issues arising when people’s freedom to practice their religion comes into contention with social and geopolitical forces, as well as the question of how to promote constructive relations between religious communities and cultures.

The Dalai Lama celebrated with an exhibition in the EP
On the 30th of June an exhibition was held to celebrate the religious and political leader of Tibet in sign of appreciation of the example he represents for the whole world. The exhibition entitled Ways of wisdom was organized on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the XIVth incarnation of Dalai Lama by Csaba Sógor and Thomas Mann MEP's in cooperation with the office of Tibet (Brussels) and International Campaign for Tibet.
