MEP’s affirm: the European Union needs to give account of the protection of ethnic and linguistic minorities
Members of the European Parliament’s Minority Intergroup drew up a manifesto that lists the necessary steps need to be taken in favor of protecting ethnic and linguistic minorities. The mandate’s last meeting took place on 28 March, Thursday in Strasbourg. Besides preparing the manifesto, the MEPs discussed the situation of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Târgu Mureș - reported Csaba Sógor.

Transylvania can only be developed with efficient local governments and their persistent work” - said Csaba Sógor. The RMDSZ MEP participated in the annual report on activities of Gheorgheni/Gyergyóremete town council. The council spent more than 4 million euros of EU funds on various local developments.

Csaba Sogor: The EU should screen candidate countries about minority protection
The European Union should not repeat the mistakes of the past in the case of countries in pre-accession phase - said Csaba Sogor in the debate about the EU’s support for candidate countries. The RMDSZ MEP named Romania as an example, who did not fulfill the promises made at the time of accession regarding minority protection: for instance, it has never adopted the Minority Protection Act, it prevents the restitution of church properties. Many minority rights recorded in law still do not apply in practice.

The European Parliament supports the decrease of economic disparities between regions
The European Parliament wants to put greater emphasis on the eradication of regional disparities, supporting rural areas and reducing social inequalities through one of the most important funds of the EU - reported Csaba Sógor, after the European Parliament’s plenary voted on the objectives of the European Social Fund for the budget period of 2021-2027, as well as the increase of budgetary framework.

There are member states who are blocking Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area
"Some member states of the EU are, without any official reasoning, blocking Romania’s and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen. With this, they are sending the message to the 25 million EU citizens of the two countries that they are secondary citizens, who don’t even deserve a reasonable explanation for the situation that has developed" - said MEP Csaba Sógor on Monday in the plenary of the European Parliament, where he was making a case for the two member states joining the Schengen Area.
