Kőrösi Csoma Sándor opened a road to Tibet, to the forbidden land. His perseverance, sense purpose and sacrifice inspire me every day in my work - said Tashi Phuntsok in Csomakőrös, where he joined a commemorative event on Saturday, 8th of April, during the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Days.

The Gyarmathy scholarships were awarded

On Friday, 10th of March the 14th Gyarmathy scholarships were awarded during a ceremony held at Kalotaszentkirály-Zentelke. The students of the Gyarmathy school prepared a small festive programme, at the beginning of which director of the Ady Endre Elementary School and mayor Póka András held opening speeches.

The situation of disabled people discussed in Sfântu-Gheorghe / Sepsiszentgyörgy

Representatives of nongovernmental organizations dealing with the disabled urged for a better support of the work of social organizations and a shared setting of common goals. The specialists had a meeting in Sepsiszentgyörgy (Sfântu-Gheorghe), where they agreed to collaborate more in the future in order to improve the situation of people living with disabilities.

Csaba Sógor and Pál Csáky on the future of Europe

Members of the European Parliament Csaba Sógor and Pál Csáky debated about the transitioning Europe, the failings of multiculturalism, as well as the causes and consequences of the migration crises and the effects of Brexit. Hungarian MEP from Slovakia Csáky Pál arrived to Cluj-Napoca for the debate at the invitation of MEP Csaba Sógor. The event that took place on Friday, October 14th was hosted by Lutheran bishop Dezső Zoltán Adorjáni.

They commemorated people of Atid and Șiclod who died during World War I.

Several hundred locals in Atid and Șiclod commemorated World War I victims who died in October of 1916. The event took place on the 9th of October 2016.

European Citizen Award for the protector of natural and cultural values of Transylvania

This year, two persons were given the European Citizens Award in Romania, Professor Dr. Iordan Gheorghe Bărbulescu and Dr. Barbara Helen Knowles, a British research biologist, protector of natural and cultural values of Transylvania, and in particular the region of Szeklerland. The awards were handed over on the 23rd of September at the European Parliament’s Information Office in Bucharest.

History carved in sandstones: preservation of old tombstones in Havadtő

Young Belgian Scouts helped with the preservation work of the tombstones at the cemetery in Havadtő / Viforoasa. Over four hundred sandstone memorials reminisce centuries past in the small town of Maros / Mureș county, in the region's most valuable old cemetery, for the preservation of which the Pro Havadtő Association has worked to raise public awareness in the past few years.
