Csaba Sógor: National minorities are constituent factors in the state, not a “problem” in need of a quick solution

On Wednesday, April 17th the European Parliament discussed the 2012 reports on Western Balkan countries. Regarding Serbia and Kosovo, DAHR MEP Csaba Sógor expressed his opinion that a basic condition for the integration of these countries into the European community should be the satisfactory settlement of the situation of national minorities.

“Croatia’s legislation regarding national minorities can serve as an example for the other European Union member states” – said EPP MEP Csaba Sógor at the Group’s Bureau meeting held on the 11th-12th of April 2013 in Dubrovnik.  At the opening of the meeting members of the European Parliament discussed Croatia’s preparedness before the accession.

On March 11th, the first day of this month’s EP plenary session in Strasbourg DAHR MEP Csaba Sógor spoke about the shortcomings of Romania’s minority policy, and explained to his fellow MEPs that there are vast differences between what is in the laws and the everyday reality.

The European Parliament and the European Commission organized a public hearing on February 20th in Brussels, on the subject of maximizing the use of the benefits of European citizenship.  This was the first of the series of events organized within the European Year of Citizens (2013).

Philippe De Backer Austrian MEP's own-initiative report on facilitating SMEs' access to finance was adopted on Tuesday, February 5th at the European Parliament’s Strasbourg plenary session. On the previous day, Csaba Sógor DAHR MEP participated at an extensive discussion on the subject. The Transylvanian MEP underlined the economic and social aspects of the issue, bringing up another important issue.
