On the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels on the 23rd of March 2011 DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor reminded about the actions of count János Esterházy’s. During the one-minute speeches in the plenary, the Hungarian MEP from Transylvania praised the activity of the Hungarian politician from Slovakia and urged for his rehabilitation.

Here follows Csaba Sógor’s speech:

„Europe’s history in the 20th century has been shaped by the conflicts between nations and ideologies. During  this rivalry the opponents have always found those to be blamed for their grievances. I would like to point out such a situation: count János Esterházy was deported at the end of the Second World War first by the Nazis, then by the Soviets.  Even today, he is regarded to be a war criminal in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, while the Supreme Court in Russia has annulled his conviction and the Polish president gave him the highly prestigious Polonia Restituta award two years ago on this very day.
Count Esterházy aided hundreds of Jews, Czechs, Slovaks and Poles, even more, he was the only MP in the Slovakian Parliament, who spoke out and voted against the Jewish laws of 1942. We can only start building a unified Europe after we have removed the ruins of the Second World War. This includes the rehabilitation of personalities such as Esterházy. It is up to us to remove the remaining ruins.”
