DAHR's MEP Csaba Sógor met with the representatives of his Holiness the Dalai Lama in Brussels on June 3rd, 2010. The representatives of his Holiness' office at the European Union, Tashi Wangdiaug and Penpa Tsering, spokesperson for the exiled Tibetan government conveyed the Dalai Lama's message and greetings.

The subject of the meeting was the overview of the international political situation and the analysis of its aspects concerning the Tibetan political and social life.

- Based on my guests statements we’ve managed to take into account and plan what we can do for Tibet – said MEP Csaba Sógor. – The issues surrounding the Hungarian and Tibetan minorities are similar due to the similar nature of the two communities: since the Hungarian government doesn’t decide or act without consulting us, the European decision makers committed to the Tibetan cause shouldn’t do lobby work on their behalf without consulting the Tibetan people.

Csaba Sógor stated his conviction that based upon the general interpretation of the relationship between the majority and the minority, the majority should be convinced in a peaceful manner that minority rights and self-government are not simply rights owed to the minorities but instruments in assuring a country’s political stability and economic growth.

The representatives of the Dalai Lama asked Mr. Sógor to continue to inform the Chinese authorities and help them realize that the Tibetan people desire only what any minority in the European Union: their cause and their rights to be respected.
