Csaba Sógor: „It is better to prevent fire rather than putting it out”

The EPP Group held its ninth summer university in Budapest between 16-18 September with the main goal of analyzing the challenges Europe is facing in the general context of the global crisis.

Esteemed politicians and specialists from several countries participated at the event along with the Bureau of the EPP Group. The agenda of the round-table discussion current affairs to long-term issues with the debates focused on the solutions. The main topics included the counteraction of the global economic crisis, handling of the issues surrounding climate change, the possibility of creating new jobs in the EU, solution of the social problems, as well as the urgent need to solve the problems of the roma minority in view of the recent events in France.

DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor also attended the meeting. In his view, politicians need these kinds of meetings in order to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges the EU is facing at the moment and to be able to work together on possible solutions.

„Politicians cannot only put out the fires; they rather need to prevent them. It is better for any politician to prevent a fire rather than putting it out. We need to elaborate plans and strategies that aid us in solving issues before they get aggravated” – said the MEP from Transylvania, with regard to the tension surrounding the expulsion of the Roma from France.

Csaba Sógor believes that politicians must not delimit global warming, the economic crisis or even unemployment from the minority issue, because social dissatisfaction and ethnic conflict leaves little room for solving the global problems.
