Transylvanian blessing for the main square in Pécs
The renovated main square in Pécs was inaugurated after months of works came to an end. A company from Ciumani did the implementation works.
The renovation was finished at the beginning of May, thus the technical deliverance took place at the middle of the month and the newly renovated Széchenyi square, also the centre square in Pécs, the European Capital of Culture (ECC) in 2010 was inaugurated on the 5th of June.
The square, along with several nearby streets was renewed through the ECC program and the works cost over 2 billion forints. The main contractor, Hungarian Bayer Centrum Kft. commissioned the implementation works to Hurom Buda SRL from Ciumani, Romania. The Szekler craftsmen contributed to the preparation and placement of the granite flagstones of the square.
The ecumenical worship constituting the final moment of the inauguration ceremonies took place at the Pius church in Pécs where father Csaba Böjte celebrated the service, retired dean István Hajdó gave a sermon and MEP Csaba Sógor spoke at the invitation of the company from Transylvania.
DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor emphasized the importance of joint celebration because as the last ninety years have proven the bond of the Hungarian culture and language is stronger than the granite flagstones of the square and is capable of maintaining the cohesion of the Hungarian nation regardless of the borders drawn in the Carpathian Basin. He stated that he is delighted that Szeklerland contributed to the European Capital of Culture.
The worship ended with the presentation of the Mustármag Association from Tirgu Mures whose youth drama group presented the popular rock opera Life above the ruins.
