Transylvania is not only the past but also the future: the RMDSZ`s English language website about Transylvania has been presented in Strasbourg
The RMDSZ presented the www.transylvania.com website at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which offers English language content on Transylvania for foreign visitors. The portal sponsored by the Bethlen Gábor Fund and the Eurotrans Foundation reports also about problems of the Hungarian community, besides the attractions of the region: the use of mother tongue, education, property restitution - which are also part of the everyday life of our community.
Transylvania is not only the past but also the future, said MEP Csaba Sógor, who also talked briefly about some historical events of Transylvania, mentioning for instance that in Torda, the world`s first law on religious freedom was introduced. We celebrate the 450th anniversary of this historical event in 2018. Csaba Sógor introduced David McAllister, MEP from Germany (Christian Democratic Union, CDU) who visited Kolozsvar/ Cluj - Napoca in April.
“I saw Transylvania with my own eyes and I found that the Hungarian community is still discriminated against in terms of mother tongue use in administration, healthcare and justice. This is precisely why the political activity of RMDSZ is vital, in order to protect and preserve the identity of the Hungarian minority”- David McAllister stressed. He added that the protection of national minorities has always been on the agenda of the European Union, and this issue is even more important with the rise of nationalist voices. McAllister pointed out also that in addition to the beauty and millennial history of Transylvania, the region is inhabited by fantastic people.
MEP Gyula Winkler has communicated the RMDSZ message, that the best way to share the problems of the Hungarian community with the foreign audience is to first introduce them Transylvania, the region that we call our home.
The website was presented by Blanka Székely, journalist of Transylvania Now. She explained the content of the portal: “We make videos about the Mera World Music Festival, or even the Bánffy Castle of Bonchida, but also an IT company that employs over a hundred young people and researches the field of artificial intelligence. We try to present the best way, that in Transylvania the past meets the future and that Transylvania is a beautiful developing country, which is worth to visit” - she said.
