The EP would increase effectiveness of the fight against terrorism

In order to increase the effectiveness of the fight against terrorism, the European Parliament accepted on April 18 the Council of Europe’s recommendation to adopt a convention on the prevention of terrorism. Csaba Sógor, EPP responsible of the file also contributed to shaping the EP's opinion.

The European Union has already made significant steps in this area by adopting the anti-terrorism directive, but it is of common interest to extend further cooperation to non-EU partners. By signing this convention, member states can further improve the effectiveness of the fight against terrorism - says Csaba Sógor.

"International cooperation is of high importance in this fight. This must include the evaluation of threats, the sharing of strategic and operational information, but also a common understanding of terrorism and related offenses", explained the MEP.
