Romanian justice system debated in the European Parliament

“The EU shouldn’t just evaluate the Romanian justice system from corruption point of view, but rather expect the rule of law to prevail, given the fact that the majority of citizens think that this is what the justice system lacks” - argued Csaba Sógor in Strasbourg in the debate about the Romanian justice system.

Wednesday afternoon the Romanian justice system reform was on the agenda of the European Parliament, which led the MEP debate on the threats to the rule of law in Romania. The RMDSZ MEP said in the plenary session that he thinks the changes that are about to happen most of all should be centered around the expectations of citizens. It is important that the politics does not weaken the mechanisms available to the institutions that fight against corruption, but in the same time it would be a misstep to resist any modifications and to suspect a political attacks against the justice system every step of the way when an article of existing legislation is modified.
