Romanian citizens submitted the most petitions to the European Parliament
In a year’s time almost one hundred petitions were submitted to the European Parliament from Romania. Most complaints per inhabitant were submitted from this country. According to Csaba Sógor the number of petitions demonstrates that there are systemic problems in Romania, which call for the European Commission’s particular attention.
The plenary of the European Parliament voted Thursday on the Committee on Petitions (PETI) report for 2016. RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor commented during the debate: “It is disappointing that in the last two years there was a very high number of petitions submitted from Romania and that only Greece comes close in the number of petitions submitted per inhabitant.” According to the MEP from Transylvania, this means that Romanian citizens are aware of their rights, but also that there are systemic problems in the country.
