DAHR's MEP Sógor Csaba invited winemaker János Brutler of Brutler and Lieb to present the wines from the Krasznabéltek region (Szatmár County) in the European Parliament's Intergroup for Wine, Fruits and Vegetables, Tradition and Quality foodstuffs.

Brutler presented the century-long history of grape cultivation and wine making that reaches back to Roman times through the age of King Saint László, having continued up to this day through hard work on the Károlyi Estates and through the expertise of the Schwabish population in the region.

The winemaker also mentioned the importance of the 260 thousand Euros granted to his business through the SAPARD programme and the developments made possible through this grant: - It is a great joy for me to realize that wines from Béltek are at a European level. The feedback received from the specialists here today has proven that we are competitive, that we have contributed to wine production in the EU.

Brutler’s presentation was followed by the tasting of eight types of Nachbil (the name of one of the local vineyards) wines.

Sógor Csaba, the host of the event, thanked the Intergroup in his closing remarks for choosing Transylvania as the location for its next field trip as a result of the success of Brutler’s presentation.
