A salute to the desire for freedom of the nations of Europe

The programme will include mostly the works of Hungarian composers performed by artists from Transylvania and Transcarpathia. At the end of the musical event the Hungarian Abassador in Bruxelles and various EPP MEPs will place wreaths at the memorial plaque of Jósika Miklós at the writer-politicians former home in Brussels.

Piano artist Burkaló Beáta from Munkács will play solely from the works of Ferenc Liszt. 

Ms. Burkalo studied at the Zador Ungvary Music School and at the National Music Academy in Lviv, under the guidance of Ethella Chuprik, currently a piano teacher at the State University of Munkacs and an active concert pianist. 

The Concordia sting quartet was formed in 1970 by Ágoston András, Márkos Albert, Márkos András and Miklós András. They often performed in Romania, Transylvania and other European countries. Apart from the classical string quartet repertoire, the members of Concordia also presented musical premiers, mostly at the request and from the works of Transylvanian composers.

Current members are Márkos Albert, Béres Melinda, Gherbanovschi Sorin and Ortenszky Gyula. Their performance in Brussels will feature parts for Bartók Béla’s 44th violin duo and Kodály Zoltán Duo followed by Orbán György’s Five madrigals and the Saxon composer form Cluj, Hans Peter Türk’s Improvisation.

MEP Sógor Csaba invited guests from his constituency and Subcarpathia to the commemoration ceremonies.

„March 15, the Hungarian revolution of 1848-49 is not only celebrated by the Hungarian nationals living in eight European countries, but everyone who follows the ideals of freedom, equality and fraternity. Back then the small nations of Europe fought against the armies of two empires for one and a half years. Today, here in the heart of the European Union, we bow before (ahead) the fight for freedom of the nations of Europe through the universal voice of music – said the MEP in his speech opening the event.
