The Németh Géza Commemorative Prizes have been awarded

2011-01-23

The Németh Géza Association from Miercurea Ciuc has founded the Németh Géza Commemorative Prize in 2000 with the intent of honoring teachers and their pupils who contribute to the preservation of Hungarian culture through their work. The prizes, also supported by MEP Csaba Sógor, are awarded on the Day of Hungarian Culture each year.

This year’s laureates were Dr. Emese Papp Kincses and her student Attila Ambrus, respectively Tibor Beder and his pupil Enikő Szebeni Márton, who received their awards on Sunday, 23rd of January 2011 at the Reformed Church in Miercurea Ciuc.

In his praise, retired journalist György Bajna said that Dr. Emese Papp Kincses has always worked with faith, soul and empathy, this is why she was able to transmit the Hungarian values through her activities as a teacher, writer, publicist, scientific researcher and director.

Tibor Beder, who also received the award for his activities as a teacher, writer and researcher, was praised by András Deáky. Beder has received numerous awards over the years, but the one dearest to him is the distinction of honorary citizen of the town of Tekirdağ (Turkey), awarded for his efforts dedicated to unearthing the relations of kinship and friendship of the Hungarian and Turkish peoples.

- Géza Németh was a person who would always favor those in need before those in power; he was a Christian Robin Hood. His memory and values are preserved by this Association that awards these prizes to the teachers who share these values – said MEP Csaba Sógor, who has been the supporter of the prize for eleven years now.

Csaba Sógor believes that, on the Day of Hungarian Culture, it is important to remember not only the great personalities of Hungarian culture, but its „daymen”, the teachers as well.

The MEP also stated that the European Union will have a chance to learn about Hungarian culture during the first half of 2011 because the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will fulfill it role with the typically Hungarian complaisance. „The carpet displayed in the building of the Council presents the important dates and figures of Hungarian history and culture, reminding us that we, Hungarians have always been able to fight for our freedom and unity” – said the Hungarian MEP from Transylvania.
