MEP Csaba Sógor is the patron of the IX. Transylvanian Student’s Scientific Conference
Csíkszereda will give home between 26th and 28th November 2010 to the ninth edition of the Transylvanian Student’s Scientific Conference (TUDEK). After a request by the National Association of Researcher Students, the Kós Károly School of Construction undertook the organization of the event. The patron of the conference was MEP Csaba Sógor.
TUDEK is an opportunity for high school students studying in Hungarian to present and sustain their scientific research before a jury of university professors and professionals. Apart from the presentations and contests of young researchers, the conference offers opportunity for Hungarian high school students and professors to enhance their cooperation.
Students representing different schools from different cities in Transylvania competed in eleven sections: botanics, human biology, physics-mathematics-informatics and astronomy, chemistry and biochemistry, literature and languages, ecology and hydrology, ethnography and popular architecture, psychology, sociology-philosophy-economics, local, cultural and religious history.
The most successful students of the TUDEK 2010 will face their counterparts from Hungary, Ucraine, Serbia at the National Student’s Scientific Conference (TUDOK) in Békéscsaba, Hungary.
The official start to the 2010 conference was given in the ceremony hall of the Segítő Mária Catholic Gymnasium in Miercurea Ciuc on the 27th of November.
In his opening speech, the patron and supporter of the event, MEP Csaba Sógor called the audience’s attention to the importance of gaining knowledge. – Hungarians living in minority status need to look for their future in knowledge. High school teachers have an important role in this because they need to assure that students gain the appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge that they can use to the gain advantages even in minority status – said the Hungarian politician from Transylvania.
The MEP explained that conferences such as this do not only serve the purpose of deepening knowledge, but also prepare the students for the competitive nature of everyday life. Csaba Sógor considers that it is important for maintaining relationships and exchange of knowledge, so as Hungarian students from all over the Carpathian Basin could compete alongside each other due to the borders of the European Union. – In these times of financial crisis, the best investment is made into knowledge – said the MEP.
Csaba Borboly, president of the Harghita County Council was also present at the opening ceremony. He said that the constant interaction between science and public life is indispensable. Borboly believes that science cannot ever become an end in itself, thus the County Council is always happy to support sustainable activities in the field of education.
The participants of the conference were greeted by Róbert Ráduly, mayor of Miercurea Ciuc as well who reminded the visiting students and their professor about the local attractions.
The series of opening speeches was closed by Salamon Alpár Ferencz, principal inspector at he Harghita County Education Inspectorate saying that only those societies are truly successful that are able to use their gained knowledge for the benefit of the community.
