Therapeutical horse riding for disabled children

More than one hundred children participated at the sixth edition of the Therapeutical Horse Riding Contest organized by the Hungarian Therapeutical Horse Riding Association with the aid and patronage of the International Child Protection Service in Fót, Hungary.

The event launched years ago with the goal to promote therapeutical riding and the different types of equestrian sports while offering children with disabilities the opportunity of horse racing. Therefore the event is more than a sports contest due to its important social implication.

Children with disabilities could participate in different types of contests and categories in the Therapeutical Horse Riding Contest. Children with learning disabilities, hyperactive and mentally handicapped children could enter the special education riding section. The visually impaired children and their attendants could demonstrate their skills on guided horseback or could present a story about horses for the public.

As a member of the International Child Protection Service, DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor was the host of the Special education riding contest for the children with learning disabilities on the 12th of September.

„Horses require lots of patience and caring. All of us must practice these virtues in order to become better persons. It gives me great joy to see that equestrian sports are being practiced in a widening scale” – said the MEP after the contest.

The prizes of the contest surpassed two and a half million forints, the winning teams receiving well above several hundred thousand forints each. Also, the International Child Protection Service intends to reward the institutions that trained the contestants.

The International Child Protection Service is present in Szeklerland as well, they contributed over 5,5 million Euros to the nursing of children with disabilities in Transylvania in the last ten years and played an important part in the establishment of the Early Development Centre in Sânmartin.
