Csaba Sógor's campaign-2009
The purpose of the Nagyszalonta Children's Home is to save Hungarian
children, said Mária Pál, director of the home, on Friday, as she was
showing European Parliament candidate Csaba Sógor around the
institution. The children's home run by Franciscan priest Father Böjthe
was created from old army barracks purchased and renovated for this
purpose, and currently accommodates 67 children from 6 families. Csaba
Sógor reminisced about the years when he personally arranged for the
Keresztúr Orphanage to be converted into a children's home, the second
in the country.
The mayor of Nagyszalonta, László Török, said the
town was thinking about building flats for young people in order to
encourage those raised in the children's home not to leave the town but
to find work and settle down here.
Csaba Sógor said that protecting our children and creating a secure home for them is one of the most important tasks there is, not just in Transylvania but throughout Europe, while reminding everyone that between 2001 and 2007 close to 20,000 children had disappeared from the countries of the EU, of whom just 500 have been found.
