They commemorated people of Atid and Șiclod who died during World War I.
Several hundred locals in Atid and Șiclod commemorated World War I victims who died in October of 1916. The event took place on the 9th of October 2016.
Records show that 100 years ago 17 innocent people were murdered in Șiclod, 2 in Cușmed and 24 in Atid, while thousands were forced to flee. The reformed parish and the local administration organised an event in Atid and Șiclod to commemorate the victims. The event was sponsored by RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor and the European Pepole’s party Group.
During the commemoration, he pointed out: “In Europe today, we fight our battles not with sword, but with arguments and persuasion. We aim to build a better world with the tools of democracy for which our ancestors gave their lives. Their memory reminds us to seek dialogue and peaceful cohabitation. This is the interest of our community and Europe” – pointed out the MEP.
