The Hungarian community of Arad commemorated Gyula Salacz and Pál Jávor
The Hungarian community of Arad commemorated former mayor Gyula Salacz and actor Pál Jávor on the 31st of January. Gyula Salacz was mayor for 26 years (1875-1901). He strongly contributed towards the economic revitalisation of the economy and the preservation of its cultural values. The Hungarian community of Arad also remembered actor Pál Jávor, imprisoned in 1944 for refusing to give out his Jewish wife’s whereabouts.
„Arad could prosper because it benefited of peace, economic growth and devoted people” – pointed out Csaba Sógor at the event. The RMDSZ MEP and the EPP Group of the European Parliament was invited to support the event by János Irházi, president of the Qult-Ar Assotiation, co-organizer of the event. Csaba Sógor added: “there are many people today who could be good mayors and serve their communities well. These people should be sought out and encouraged to join our work of building a better tomorrow for the Hungarians living in Transylvania.”
