Christianity is a European value
“The churches in Transylvania sometimes have a more marked presence in the society than NGOs. We need to show in Brussels that we have strong churches that hold the communities together” – said MEP Csaba Sógor on the 27th of April when he met with the representatives of local churches in Odorheiu-Secuiesc.
“The role churches play in western communities has diminished, and this influences the values people and families believe in. We have much to learn from the European Union, we can follow examples which can make our communities prosper, but there is one thing modern western society cannot help us with: we will never regain our Christian faith and set of values if we lose them now. We need to hold on to these values, take pride in them and make them known to the rest of Europe”, pointed out Sógor.
MP István Antal and Ferenc Asztalos, member of the leading board of the local RMDSZ organization and candidate at the EP elections were also present at the meeting. Asztalos added: “It is in the interest of the whole Hungarian community of Romania to be represented in the European Parliament. If we find it important to have representatives in the local administration, the county councils and in the Parliament in Bucharest, it is also natural to want to be present in Brussels, too.”
