National meeting of RMPSZ delegates

2014-04-05

This year the Hungarian Pedagogues’ Union of Romania, (RMPSZ) held its annual meeting on 5 April in Sovata, where it discussed and evaluated its activity from the recent years. Also present at the meeting were MEP Csaba Sógor, state secretary for education, András György Király and Tivadar Magyari, deputy secretary of RMDSZ, responsible for education.

In his presentation Botond Burus-Siklódi, president of RMPSZ, showed that beside organising traditional programmes and training sessions, the organisation worked on the creation of regional education development centres and on the protection of the professional interests of Hungarian teaching staff. The president highlighted the need for uniting Hungarian political forces: Our strong conviction is that, just like there is only one Hungarian education system in Romania, there should also be only one policy in the field of education. I am convinced that at present there is more need than ever for this.”

MEP Csaba Sógor explained that, although the EU does not intervene in education matters – as these are considered national competences – it has, however, programmes, which positively influence the education of Hungarian youth from Transylvania. „The EU offers for our students the possibility to study abroad, and for our teaching staff to take part in professional trainings”, said the MEP, detailing the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programme.  Sógor also insisted on the necessity of increasing the budget for education, considering that member states investing in education boast better economic performance.

The state secretary responsible for education, András Király emphasized that, although the current period is not an easy one for education, teachers cannot afford to lose hope, because, as the „day labourers of the nation”, they bear the responsibility for the upbringing of future generations.

Tivadar Magyari saluted the pedagogues in the name of RMDSZ’s directorate in charge with education. Magyari presented the directorate’s activities, consisting of programme organisation, the development of professional studies and liaison between various institutions. „We are in a rather difficult period for Hungarian mother tongue education, and you are the ones toiling every day in this field. RMPSZ is a trusted partner of RMDSZ and we expect it to continue to submit its proposals to us”, declared Magyari.
