2010-05-08

Hungarian consumers can chose authentic Szekler products in the Cora hypermarkets in Hungary for the upcoming two weeks.

The goods produced by Szekler companies can be found on the shelves of Cora outlets in Szolnok, Szeged, Miskolc, Debrecen, Budakalász, Fót és Törökbálint. MEP Csaba Sógor was present at the opening ceremony of (the) Szekler Weeks on May 7th.

The Szekler Weeks are organized by the Harghita County Council and Magyar Hipermarket Kft (and) offering the products of seven Szekler companies between the 7th and the 22nd of May in the Cora hypermarkets. The offer consists of naturally flavored cheese, mayo, honey, blueberry and apple juice, mineral water, waffles and locally manufactures ceramics.

The opening event took place Friday, May 7th in Törökbálint. Csaba Borboly, president of the Harghita County Council said that the cooperation with the Cora chain is not only a great opportunity for the producers of Szeklerland to present their products, but also a great chance to promote our values as well. István Kertai, manager of the Cora outlet in Törökbálint emphasized that they’ve happily agreed to provide this opportunity for (the) Szekler products because it is important for their customers to be able to enjoy natural and original products.

MEP Csaba Sógor pointed out that a few years ago it was impossible to imagine Szekler products on the shelves of a supermarket in Budapest: the free movement of persons and goods is one of the European Union’s main achievements. The MEP urged Hungarians to try the Szekler products, not to be afraid of the products coming from a great distance because they have been grown of Hungarian land just as they can see in Hungary and have been prepared by Hungarians just like those living in Hungary.

- Only a fraction of the Szekler products can be found on these shelves, because Szeklerland doesn’t consist of only of Harghita County. I am hopeful that the companies from Covasna and Mureş will also have a chance to present their products not only in Hungary but in Brussels and Paris as well – said Csaba Sógor who also added that we have the EU to thank for the fact that Hungarian consumers and producers of goods on both sides of the border can now come together.
