NGO meeting in Timişoara

2012-11-24

The NGO Days organized by the NGO Council in Timişoara started on the 23rd of November with a series of presentations under the title „Cross-border professional cooperation between churches and NGOs”. After the welcome speeches of reformed dean Csaba Fazas and NGO Council president Ildikó Erdei, DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor held a presentation at the first meeting of the three-day event.

In his presentation entitled The concept of the civic society the MEP emphasized the importance of added value provided by the free association of individuals represented by NGOs and said that we need to indentify the role of NGOs in society and to clarify their relationships with politics. “Europe is in a deep moral and economic crisis, but states that have a strong civil society are less affected”, said Sógor.

The MEP also reminded the participants that the EU will enter a new budgetary period from 2014, so churches and NGOs from the region have to prepare themselves for this. “Churches can access EU funds through their own NGOs or in partnership with other segments of social life, so they need to prepare plans in advance”, concluded his speech Csaba Sógor.

The day continued with presentations made by leaders of NGOs from Timiş county and neighboring countries, who presented their joint activities. Timiş county DAHR president Ferenc Halász and MP candidate Zsolt Molnár also attended the meeting.
