DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor was awarded the Calasanctius Training Program’s (CTP) Man of the Year prize at the fundraising dinner organized by the Calasanctius Scholarship Foundation and the Calasanctius Training Program.

The aim of the Calasanctius Training Program is to provide opportunities for gifted Christian young people from the Carpathian Basin to study and obtain a diploma in the USA, to learn about the civil society of the US and put their knowledge to the use of the community back home.

The CTP’s mission is to contribute to the professional and ethical education of the Hungarian youth, who can then become the future social and economic leaders of their community. Over 180 students have been granted scholarships since the beginning of the program, their total value amounting to over 1 million dollars.

The Foundation started its Youth Business Program in 2000 in order to provide ethical business education to high-school students. Programs have been started in Budapest, Szeged, Tatabánya, Miercurea Ciuc (in Hungarian Csíkszereda) in Romania, Dunajská Streda (Dunaszerdahely) in Slovakia and Berehove (Beregszász) in Ukraine.

The funding for the programs is provided mainly by the alumni of the Foundation through volunteer work and regular donations. Apart from this and the 1% donations, the functioning of the Foundation is financed through the proceeds of the Fundraising Dinner.

The 12th edition of the Fundraising Dinner took place on the 17th of October at the neo-baroque chapel and main hall of the Szent Margit High School in Budapest, with high attendance from the Foundation’s supporters and alumni.

The evening saw the awarding of the the CTP Man of the Year prize, which was given this year to Reformed priest and MEP Csaba Sógor, a long-time supporter of the program. Due to other engagements, the MEP could not attend the ceremony, therefore he thanked organizers through a video message. The prize was accepted on his behalf by his son, Ákos.

- You are the ones who deserve the prize, because I’ve known you since 1999 and I know what you do for young people in the Carpathian Basin. The YBP is well known in Transylvania and is recognized for its contribution to the development of young people. We need to continue this work – said Csaba Sógor in thanking for the prize.
