Young local leaders encouraged to apply for EU funds

2012-09-29

DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor called on young local leaders to prepare local and micro-regional development plans at the 11th edition of the MIÉRT Academy on Friday, September 28th. Along with project development expert András Farkas, the MEP held a presentation at the event with the motto „Young people in local government” and presented a call for applications for the young local government officials with the prize being a professional visit to Brussels.

„We constantly inform young people on the EU and its funding system. We want to make them understand that the rules of the game have changed and that from now on we will have to play according to these rules. Young people have an advantage because they can learn these new rules very fast and very efficiently” – said Csaba Sógor at the event.

The MEP’s call for applications urges MIÉRT’s young local representatives to assess their localities’ potential and prepare the development plans necessary for accessing EU funding. Thus, young local leaders can later present proposals for EU grants. The professional background of the call for applications will be provided by the Pont Group. The tender will be managed by MIÉRT and local officials can apply until the end of February next year. Project development expert András Farkas presented the foreseeable changes in the EU funding system.

„The EU will enter a new budgetary cycle after 2014, so new funds will be available to local authorities. It is up to us to use this opportunity. Right now we are taking a step in this direction and I am confident that young local representatives who apply to the call for applications will have an advantage in this race” – concluded Csaba Sógor.
