DAHR politicians met with church representatives
DAHR president Hunor Kelemen, MEP Csaba Sógor, MP Dénes Seres and Secretary of State and MP candidate Attila Markó met with the representatives of the historical churches from the Sãlaj region on Friday, September 28th.
„We’ve always had a great relationship with the churches in this region and we intend to maintain this relationship in the future, too. We need dialogue and joint action because this is the only way our presence in Parliament will be effective” – said Hunor Kelemen at the meeting. The president also added that DAHR will aim at ensuring a proportionate representation at the elections this fall; as there would most likely be a high Romanian turnout, it was crucial that the Hungarian community in Romania achieve a better result than the one from the local elections of this spring.
„We expect that in 2013 modifications will be made to the constitution, the structure of the regions and to the law on restitution, it is thus important that we are present there where the decisions concerning us are taken” – said Hunor Kelemen.
MEP Csaba Sógor spoke about the role of the churches in the EU funding system. He explained: „different segments of social life, the NGOs, local authorities and churches need to think about partnerships because solidarity is important in this field, too. The EU does not fund the building of churches or parishes, but provides several funding sources that can also be used by churches through partnerships aiming at the preservation of cultural values, training programmes, social action, or even the creation of parks and parking lots” – said the MEP.
Secretary of State Attila Markó, who is also an MP candidate in the Covasna region, spoke about the fact that Romania needs to solve the issues concerning the law of restitution of nationalized buildings before the beginning of 2013, since the country only received respite from the European institutions until then. DAHR will continue to advocate in kind restitution.
