Family weekend in Satu Mare
Yesterday we commemorated the fact that a while ago Hungarian families and communities were torn apart and the Hungarian nation’s economic, cultural and political strength was curbed for decades, so it is good to see that we are many here today – said DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor at the fifth edition of the Family Weekend.
DAHR’s organization from Satu Mare together with the Hungarian Youth Initiative, the Golden Gate Cultural Association, the Alliance of Democratic Youth from Satu Mare County and the Ady Endre Association prepared varied and exciting programs for the families from Satu Mare on the 4th and 5th of June.
Similarly to previous years, great anticipation preceded the family contest that had as its main prize a trip to Brussels on behalf of MEP Csaba Sógor. The families had to compete in ten events: they had to prove their skills in eating kürtőskalács, preparing deserts or drawing a family crest. Following the three hour long contest the Ipiapacs team, consisting of members of the Pap family proved to be the best, so they were the ones the MEP invited to a two day trip to Brussels that includes sight-seeing and a visit to the European Parliament.
- As a father of four I have experienced the sacrifices one has to make in order to have a large family, but I’ve also experienced the joys of family life as well. Today we have to realize that we need many children and large families in order to ensure the future of Europe. We need children that bring with them the notion of work, responsibility, selflessness, sacrifice and community spirit. A society that builds its labor market upon immigration is doomed – explained Csaba Sógor.
The MEP said that he offered the trip as an encouragement for all to get together often in large numbers because such contests bring people together.
