Happy 20th Anniversary, Organization of Csángó-Hungarians of Moldova !

2010-10-20

The Organization of the Csángó-Hungarians of Moldva (MCMSZ) celebrates its twentieth anniversary on October 20 and next year will be ten years since the Council of Europe issued its recommendations about the Csango culture.

On the occasion of the two important anniversaries for the Csango community, bridging the time gap between the two, DAHR’s MEP Csaba Sógor will publish a volume of studies on the Csangos. The book will have informative and synthetical content written in three languages (Hungarian, Romanian and English) and will mainly address foreign readers, but will also be a useful reading for anyone who is interested in the situation and culture of the Csango community.

The presentation in Transylvania of the „European reader’s” book entitled Mük szeretünk itt élni (We love to live here) is planned to take place during December Târgu Mureş and Bacãu, and on the 9th of February 2011 in Brussels with the attendance of the authors.

The introductory study of the volume was written by Ferenc Pozsony, Professor of Ethnography at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj. The brief overview of the Csango community’s history is followed by the report prepared by Tytti Maria Isohookana-Asunmaa, former Finnish Minister of Culture and the subsequent 1551/2001 recommendations of the Council of Europe.

On Csaba Sógor’s request, Smaranda Enache, co-president of the Pro Europa Ligue and Gabriel Andreescu, president of the Romanian Centre for  International Studies contributed to the publishing of their report written nine years ago about the situation of the Csangos living in Moldova and have also prepared a new, updated version of the analysis. The work of the two renowned human rights activists has been aided by the staff of education secretary of state András Király with data and statistics.

The authors selected illustrations from the archive of the Kríza János Ethnographic Society from Cluj and the private collection of Gyula Ádám, photographer from Miercurea Ciuc.
