Csaba Sógor's campaign-2009
Let's show Europe what we've got to offer! Csaba Sógor campaigns in Judeţul Satu Mare (Szatmár county).
"We need to take the ‘Túrterebes' strawberry to Brussels, just like we
did with the Szekler potato", suggested MEP candidate Csaba Sógor on
Monday, in a meeting with local residents. He explained that "we have
to show Europe all that we have to offer, in order to present a
faithful picture of ourselves, the Transylvanian Hungarians, so that
the tourists will come here to see, and taste, for themselves." The
mayor or Túrterebes said that the flavour of the strawberries produced
in the village is second to none; however, they are unable to catch up
with the competition in terms of shelf life and transportation. For
this reason they are considering distributing the soft fruit in the
form of jam or syrup, and would like to open a small factor for this
purpose in the future.
The smallholders and local councillors were appreciative of Csaba Sógor's offer at the meeting, and at the same time they invited the candidate to attend a strawberry festival in Halmeu (Halmi) on 30 May. "We regard it as our duty to promote the attractions of Transylvania. This is what we have done so far, and what we will continue to do. For example, we must let people taste the strawberries of Túrterebes, the wine of Enyed and the cherries of Décse. We must show our talents, our tourist attractions, our living traditions, our culture and customs, the richness and diversity of our excellent produce and products", said the MEP candidate, summing up his aims.
Csaba Sógor took the message of Hungarian Solidarity (Magyar Összefogás) to several villages in Judeţul Satu Mare (Szatmár county), including Dorolţ (Pusztadaróc), Egri and Livada Micã (Sárközújlak). "All roads lead to solidarity. This is what the political leaders of the Transylvanian Hungarian community have recognised, and this is why 7 June will be such a momentous occasion. Anyone who stays at home on this day is handing seats in the European Parliament to Romanian nationalist politicians, and choosing a situation in which not only the Transylvanian Hungarians, but also the Hungarian communities in the Kárpátalja region of Ukraine and in Voivodina are not adequately represented in Brussels", said Csaba Sógor, underlining the importance the Day of Hungarian Solidarity.
