Wilfried Martens' authobiographical book was presented in Brussels
Mr. Sógor Csaba, DAHR’s Member of the European Parliament participated on the presentation of Wilfried Martens’ autobiographic book entitled Europa, I Struggle, I Overcome. Originally written in English, the book has a preface signed be Mrs. Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany.
The author, presently the president of the European People’s Party and former Belgian prime-minister, has a humble background, but his unbreakable belief and ambition made him one of the leading figures of Europe and the EPP.
The book, published by Springer Publishing and the Centre for European Studies (CES) is also a testament to Mr. Martens’ life work, acknowledged by some of the most important leaders present, like Jerzy Buzek, the President of the European Parliament and José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Committee. All the speakers agreed that Mr. Martens’ main virtues are his abilities to negotiate and his openness towards compromise.
In his praise of the author Mr. Barroso pointed out that the example of the Flemmish Belgian politician proves that anyone can succeed if he hold himself to two of the most important values of Europe: trust and solidarity. „These are the key factors for the future of Europe’s and all of the Hungarians living in Eastern Europe” – said Mr. Sógor in agreement with his fore speakers.
