The European Comission's (EC) international commision on the georgian conflict presented its report in this week's plenary sitting of the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg.

In the following debate every parliamentary group had the chance to put forward its opinion through the voice of one its members. Mr. Sógor Csaba, member of the European Parliament (MEP) adressed the assembly through the Catch the Eye procedure:

„It is always the civilians, the minorities and democracy as a whole that have to suffer most from the games of the great powers. Mistrust always takes the place of security and guns are used instead of debates everywhere, where there is a tear in the fabric of society. What can the European Union do the conflict between Russia and Georgia? It must remain consecvent and authentic. The EU has to guarantee the rights of the national minorities, even in France, Romania, Greece and Slovakia.

The key to solving the conflicts in Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia lies within the European Union.”
