European Prayer-breakfast in Brussels
Mr. Jerzy Buzek, the President of the European Parliament was the patron of the event. André Rouvoet, vice-prime minister of the Netherlands held a speech about the biblical interpretation of family protection, freedom and Christianity. He emphasized the need for modern European societies to return to the roots of freedom and Christianity.
Slovenian MEP Alojz Peterle started the introduction to the liturgical frame with prayer and Sógor Csaba ended the service with the reading of the 130th psalm.
The Hungarian MEP from Transylvania reflected on the speech of the Dutch politician by stating that traditional national minorities must protected in the European Union. – We must listen to the minorities, not silence them. This is the gesture they expect of us, responsible officials, and this is the only guarantee of the manifestation on freedom for them.
The event was closed by Sógor Csaba: the MEP said „Our father” in his mother tongue, Hungarian.
