Csaba Sógor: The Day of Hungarian Culture is an opportunity to rediscover our values
The Day of Hungarian Culture (June 23) is an opportunity to rediscover our values and reevaluate our attitude towards preserving our linguistic, cultural and spiritual heritage - said Csaba Sógor in Csíkszereda/Miercurea Ciuc during the award ceremony of the Németh Géza memorial prize.
The Németh Géza Foundation in Csíkszereda/Miercurea Ciuc has been handing out its memorial prize around the Day of Hungarian Culture for 15 years. The prize acknowledges prominent activity of educators and students who contributed to the Hungarian culture. The award consists of a financial grant by RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor.
In 2018 schoolteacher Irén Hunyadi and her student Hajnalka Vargyas from Gyergyóalfalu / Joseni received the acknowledgment. Szabolcs Gáll, mayor of the town, spoke appreciatively of the teacher who has worked tirelessly for her community for over 37 years, calling her a “protector of our traditional values”.
“On the Day of Hungarian Culture we all ask what culture is. Culture is the knowledge that assures the togetherness and survival of a community. We also wonder whether there’s a place for our national identity, language and culture in this globalized world. The answer is obvious: globalization wouldn’t exist without national cultures” - added Sógor.
