Romania is to receive 120 million Euros from Switzerland

2010-01-09

Romania is set to receive 181 Swiss francs (120 million Euros) as a non-refundable loan from Switzerland for the development of the private sector and the implementation of infrastructural reforms.

The transfer decision will be made after the Swiss parliament adopts the loan agreement for Romania and Bulgaria.

The money doesn’t go to Brussels or the national budgets; it will be available through joint Swiss projects. The Romanian finance ministers stated that they intend to fund projects targeting public safety, stable reform, ecology, infrastructure, the private and the social sector. The duration of the agreement is most likely to be five years from the moment of its signing. It is predicted that in the first part of the next year the Romanian and Swiss governments will sign the bilateral agreement that allows for the beginning of joint projects and the implementation of the loans.
