The success of the Minority SafePack will be the success of the European citizens, too
Like the President of the European Parliament, MEPs have to support the Minority SafePack initiative in the coming period - Csaba Sógor asked his fellow Members of the European Parliament.
At the EP plenary session of 15 May Csaba Sógor talked about Transylvanian Hungarian affairs in his one-minute speech on Monday evening. "A few months ago, in the fall of 2016, I talked about the fact that the Romanian anti-corruption campaign, beside its recognized positive results, also shows serious trespasses as well. At that time I said that the accusation of corruption in Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș was used to disable a Romanian Hungarian-speaking school. Today I can repeat this statement, because the situation has not changed since then, on the contrary, the parents of students are being heard by anti-corruption prosecutors who try to intimidate them and make them withdraw their children from the school " - he stressed.
According to the RMDSZ MEP the aim of the authorities is clear: questioning the functioning and the future of the school: "How can such a goal be pursued under the noble banner of fight against corruption? – I leave it to your judgement" - said the MEP.
On the other hand, the Transylvanian MEP stressed that the case also confirmed that the problems of national minorities need to be addressed at European level, as demanded by the Minority SafePack European Citizens' Initiative recently accepted by the Commission.
In connection with this, Csaba Sógor asked his fellow Members to support the initiative, like the President of the European Parliament, as its success will be the success of European citizens, too.
