This year, the organisers of the „Education Otherwise” programme from Gheorgheni tried to promote European values, cultural diversity and mutual respect among nations.

Upon the invitation of the Batthyány Ignác Technical High School, the representatives of several schools from Romania and Hungary organised common programmes, ending the days spent together through a festive programme on the afternoon of 11 April. Also present at the event organised in the Cultural Centre of Gheorgheni was RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor.

To the almost one week-long programme invited were all the high school’s twin institutions: the Hunfavi János Technical High School from Budapest, the Economic Technical School from Eger, the Eötvös József Reformed Highschol from Heves, the Technical Economic High School from Brașov, the bilingual Economic College from Târgu Mureș and the Lauder-Reut Romanian language Jewish school from Bucharest.

Within the event MEP Csaba Sógor saluted the fact that the „Education otherwise” programme ensured the possibility for teaching in a European spirit. „Occasions such as this one allow us to get to know each other’s cultures. If we start to know the people we live together with, we will be able to respect them, too. True multiculturalism means that not only the minority knows the language and culture of the majority, but this true the other way round, too”, said the MEP, encouraging the students to keep an open mind to the world and to be promoters of multiculturalism and multilingualism.

The MEP also encouraged the students to be rebellious because they represent the generation capable to bring something new to the society. “Your rebellion will only be successful as long as you will be able to use it for the good of the society” – this was the RMDSZ politician’s message.
