We need a people-centred Europe
Csaba Sógor talked about his activity in the European Parliament and the importance of the EP elections coming up on the 25th of May during his two-day work visit in Timiș and Arad county, at the invitation of MP Zsolt Molnár.
Csaba Sógor visited Dumbrava on Saturday where he attended the annual carnival ball. On Sunday he held a service at the reformed church and debated public issues with the locals in Tormac. During the discussions the MEP stressed the importance of Christian values in political work. “We need to cherish family values, mutual responsibility and community thinking in Europe. Europe cannot be only an economic community; we are working on making human life more important than any economic aspect”, explained the MEP. Csaba Sógor pointed out that Hungarians need to be represented in Brussels, so they can draw European funds to Transylvania, but even more importantly so that they can have a say in the decisions taken there, and thus help build a people-centred Europe, where one has the right to use one’s mother tongue, and live in security even if being part of a minority.
Csaba Sógor said that the central decision making board of RMDSZ had enough confidence in him to put him on the second place of the candidate list. –“In the past few years we worked on putting Transylvanian issues on the European agenda. We want to continue doing this, as it is our job to speak and stand up for our rights in Brussels. We need to inform Brussels about every violation of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Romania, because no other nation’s representative is going to do that for us” – underlined the MEP.
MP Zsolt Molnár added: the Hungarian community of Romania cannot afford to lose its representatives in Brussels, this is especially important for the inner diaspora communities. “On the 25th of May we will decide whether or not the Hungarian minority in Romania wants to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the European Union. If we need European funds, if we want to have educational and work opportunities in Europe, or if we want to preserve our linguistic and cultural heritage, then we will advocate maintaining our representatives in Brussels by voting on the 25th. The inner diaspora Hungarian communities cannot afford to do otherwise”, pointed out the MP.
Csaba Sógor continued his visit by holding another service at the church in Sânnicolau Mare and speaking with the public. He then visited Arad, his hometown, and held a service in the church where his father used to serve as a pastor, and where he spent the first eight years of his life.
