Equality between men and women discussed in the European Parliament

”We need family policy measures, too for solving the problem of inequality between men and women”, highlighted MEP Csaba Sógor in the debate concerning the report of his collegue, Inês Cristina Zuber, presented in the European Parliament on 10 March. 

According to Csaba Sógor, the issue of social equality between men and women raises many questions and can be analysed from several perspectives. ”It is extremely important that the ”equal pay for equal work” principle to prevail, because statistical data continue to indicate the existence of serious discrimination”, remarked the Hungarian MEP from Romania. In the debate Sógor emphasized the importance of a greater participation of women in decision-making, because a higher proportion of women in various bodies would be beneficial for the decisions taken. ”In any area there is a need for the approach that is characteristic to our women colleagues”, said the MEP, also pointing out that family policy measures are needed, too in order to address the problem.
”We must do everything we can so that childbearing and the number of children in families depend less on the financial situation of  the family. At the same time we must ensure for women to be able to make reasonable compromises between raising children and building their careers. We still have a lot to do in this regard”, concluded Sógor.
