Support signatures collected by Csaba Sógor in Miercurea Ciuc

“The Hungarians from Romania must be represented in the European Parliament, otherwise the decisions will be taken without us. If there are no Hungarian MEPs from Romania in the EP, Western Europe will consider either that Hungarians do not have any weight in Romania, or that they do not wish to decide their own destiny.”

This was Csaba Sógor’s message, who on 14 March, in the presence of the local press collected support signatures in the centre of Miercurea Ciuc.

Sógor emphasized that RMDSZ is the legitimate representative organisation of the Hungarians from Romania and that its opinion matters in the European Parliament. “If we draw attention to an issue, the world listens to what we have to say. We must show in Brussels and in Strasbourg that the Hungarian community from Romania is diverse, but at the same time united and strong, whose objectives deserve support”, pointed out the MEP, adding that RMDSZ can only carry out its mission if it has the support of the community.

According to István Becze, executive director of RMDSZ’s Miercurea Ciuc Territorial Organisation, the collection of signatures in the Ciuc area progresses well. He also added that due to the efficiency of the local RMDSZ organisations from Sântimbru, Cârța and Tomești more signatures were collected than expected.

“The people from Ciuc are aware of the importance of RMDSZ’s presence in EU decision forums. I didn’t meet anyone to refuse offering his or her signature. I believe that the inhabitants of Ciuc know well that RMDSZ works for the development of the Hungarian community from Romania. A big advantage of the Ciuc region is that beside an RMDSZ president, two ministers and senators, it also has a member of the European Parliament”, declared István Becze, also noting that it is essential that RMDSZ’s and Szeklerland’s candidate continue to represent the community in the EP.
