RMDSZ MEP Csaba Sógor was invited to speak at the Hungarian University of Komárno, Slovakia. The MEP held a lecture on minority rights and representation entitled Representing Hungarian interests in the European Union.

Sógor spoke about the importance of cooperation between the Hungarians from Transylvania, Hungary and Slovakia in the European Union, especially regarding minority issues, and pointed out: „It is our job to make our Romanian and Slovakian colleagues see that cooperation with us benefits them too and that our proposals are also in the interest of their communities. The best examples are the developments and investments made via cross border cooperation projects.”

The MEP also talked about current problems of the Hungarian communities from Romania and Slovakia, adding that the representatives of these communities must also take part in finding solutions to the bigger problems of Europe. “It is all the more pressing in the current economic and social circumstances that we look farther ahead than 4 or 5 years when we define long term goals and strategies. This is true for Europe and it is true for our Hungarian communities in the Carpathian Basin”, stressed the MEP. He also urged the youth from the audience to take part in the next County level elections in Slovakia.
