Creating new opportunities for young people
With the start of the new political year in Brussels, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community and the Ecclesia in Europa catholic movement organised a conference entitled Creating new opportunities for young people in Europe.
DAHR MEP Csaba Sógor participated at the event sponsored by the two leading political fractions of the European Parliament, the European Peoples’ Party and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. The Transylvanian politician participated in the Personal and Community Perspectives panel with a presentation about the activity of the Transylvanian Calasancticus Scholarship Foundation, entitled Ethical Management of Youth Business Programmes. The MEP brought up the fine example of the Youth Business Program (YBP) organized for several years now by the foundation. The YBP encourages young high school students to gain processional experience and develop their entrepreneurial skills.
The organisers of the event pointed out that supporting and encouraging young people and creating new opportunities for them should be a priority for the EU, regardless of which member state they come from, their level of education or their social background. The EU and all youth organisations should treat young people equally and create the possibility to further educate themselves. They need to be motivated to take part in social activities, be volunteers and get involved in the works of non-profit organisations, participate at trainings and learn as many foreign languages as possible.
The aim is for young people to gain as much professional experience as possible, by exploiting the opportunities mentioned above. With the right to mobility young people have the opportunity to experience new cultures and learn foreign languages. Although the objective is to create opportunities for them in their home countries, for them to be able to thrive in their hometowns, the international experience is very important. There is a need for young professionals, and we should support small and medium size businesses in creating opportunities for young people to gain professional experience.
We should make young citizens understand that they should not waste any of their time after graduation and that they should take internship and part-time positions – summed up the organisers of the event.
