The celebrations commemorating 164 years since the battle from Nyergestető (Piatra Niergeş, Harghita County) took place on Sunday, 4 August. The event was organised by the local administration of Cozmeni. DAHR MEP Csaba Sógor greeted the public through a ceremonial speech.

The MEP said that today we celebrate the heroes who have served and protected the country at the price of their lives, who have valued the importance of family, community and natural resources.

“In present times, as well as in the past, a real patriot is one who loves his country”, said the MEP and pointed out that our forefathers possessed extraordinary military skills, that made them and the Hungarian nation famous in all of Europe and beyond the borders of the continent, after the repression of the revolution.

“Today, we need heroes again. Not martyrs, but survivors.  We need heroes, who love their country, value the environment, and have the ability to make their home land better and more viable”, stressed Sógor.

The DAHR MEP also pointed out that the Hungarian soldiers had a skill hat should not be missing from our community today: they were able to think together as a community, and to act united. ”A good patriot not only loves his country, but also has the ability to cooperate, even in the little things of everyday life for the common good” – said Csaba Sógor.
