Csaba Sógor on the Tavares report

“I did not vote for the report.  It draws exaggerated conclusions from questionable facts. The proposals in the document are imprecise and unfeasible. The text is improved though, compared to the original. There is no need to send the report to the External Affairs Office of the USA government; they have already seen it through PRISM.

On a serious note, I think it’s praiseworthy that it clearly states: no double standards should be used. I am eager to see a report of the EP on Slovakia, Greece, France or Romania, for instance on the situation of minorities in these countries.  And I’m glad to finally see a document that deals with respecting minority rights and I think there is no reason why we shouldn’t prepare a document on the situation of the indigenous minorities in all member states. If we really are against double standards we have to take these steps. If not, the European Parliament may loose some of its credibility” – said Csaba Sógor.
