History carved in sandstones: preservation of old tombstones in Havadtő
Young Belgian Scouts helped with the preservation work of the tombstones at the cemetery in Havadtő / Viforoasa. Over four hundred sandstone memorials reminisce centuries past in the small town of Maros / Mureș county, in the region's most valuable old cemetery, for the preservation of which the Pro Havadtő Association has worked to raise public awareness in the past few years.
Sponsored by MEP Csaba Sógor and the European People’s Party, the Pro Havadtő Association held an international seminar on July 10th in the town. The RMDSZ MEP congratulated the association on their work and welcomed the young Belgian scouts who showed a good example of selfless volunteering to any community.
"We still cherish what is increasingly rare to find nowadays in Europe: the strength of communities and the ability to work together. We must strive not to run out of enthusiasm for the preservation of our heritage. If we have enthusiasm and we can work together, we will always find people willing to help us” – said the RMDSZ MEP. Csaba Sógor also pointed out that the preservation and promotion of cultures and cultural diversity is one of the objectives of the European Union and there will always be funds available for those who want to endeavour in this area.
