The Grape Harvest Festival was held in Dobra on 17th of October with regard to the tradition of wine-making and the link between wine and culture in the region.

The event is at its second instance, the organizers aimed to portray the local characteristics through art and cuisine and to invite as many people who have emigrated from the region as possible.

Mr. Sógor Csaba, member of the European Parliament (MEP), having ancestry in the region, also attended the event and gave a commemorative service to the emigrants. He reminded them that they can look ahead only if they remember their past, their original values and use their century-old experiences to plan the future.

Regarding the values and particularities of the region, Sógor Csaba encouraged the locals to form partnerships and look to rural tourism for opportunities. He gave the example of Palkonya, a small village in Hungary, where locals have restored the old wine cellars and now enjoy booming rural tourism. „The traditional ways of wine-making still in practice here, the thermal spas and natural beauty of the region can provide excellent grounds for development projects that can revive the whole region” – said the MEP, reminding that the European Union’s Leader programme is specially designed to finance such projects.
